Whiskey Glasses by Normann Copenhagen

Designed by Rikke Hagen .  Once again Rikke has designed an exclusive glass for Normann Copenhagen – one that combines elegance, pleasure and function in a simple, Nordic design.

Whiskey conveys an elegant expression, and the entire experience revolves around how you hold the glass in your.  Aroma, temperature and volume all come together and the wide opening completes the indulgence.

Rikke explains ” Just like the Cognac glass I have designed, my inspiration for the Whiskey glass stems from my passion fore collecting stones on the beach.  The act of playing with stones in one’s hand is an serene, meditative movement can be summed up in a functional and aesthetic design.  The curve at the bottom provides a natuaral grasp for the glass, and the little bubble elegantly elevates the ice cubes like little ice blocks”

Designed by Ole Jensen and created with a keen twist, the Dustpan and Broom allows you to clean with precision and style, complete with a small resting hole to perfectly set the brush in the pan or hang it on the wall. Perfect for those who like everything nice and neat.

Ole Jensen trained at the Arts and Crafts College in Kolding, Denmark and the Royal Academy of Arts in Copenhagen from 1985-88. He has been in co-operation with Bing & Grondahl (now Royal Scandinavia) since 1985. He was Project Leader at Denmark’s School of Design, Copenhagen from 1992-1999. He has had a wide selection of exhibitions, including a permanent exhibition at the V&A Museum in London, and won a collection of awards, including the Design Plus Prize in 1998.

Normann Copenhagen Moon Dish

Matthias Demacker was born in 1970, studied design at FH Niederhein in Krefeld.  During this time he worked for several design offices in the field of exhibition design.  After gratuating he moved to Munich to work for different design studios, where he designed for companies such as Ideal Standard, Bene and Wittmann.  In 2003 he set up his own studio called Demackerdesign where he created some unique and outstanding designs such as “Moon Dish”

Moon is a dish filled with holes, which breaks all the rules and takes tediousness out of the ordinary. It is an example of not always having to do what you are used to doing, and challenging conventional thinking while cultivating aesthetic awareness.

The inspiration of the Moon came when Matthias was experimenting with different patterns and was inspired to break with regularity. Like the surface of the moon, Moon consists of lots of holes, which gives an irregular pattern and casts a graphic shadow.

Contemporary Geometric Dahlia Rugs

Bring flowers inside with these stunning contemporary geometric Dahlia Rugs from Normann Copenhagen.

With a background in traditional floor ornaments, Claydies has used geometry and reflections to interpret rugs in a new way. Using the motive of the Dahlia flower, hence the name of the rug, Dahlia is both decorative and adds colour and dynamism to decor.

Design duo Claydies explains: “We are used to working three-dimensionally in stoneware. However, a rug has a two-dimensional form that places other demands on us on creating depth in the design. We have therefore worked with a round shape that creates good dynamics in the rug’s motif. We got hold of anNormann Copenhagen Dahlia Rug (Small) old compass and a bunch of coloured pencils and played around with simple geometric forms and reflections. In this way the motif of the Dahlia was created and we believe that the rug has now achieved both a classic and a modern, funky appearance”.

The Dahlia Rugs are produced in Denmark and are available in three colours – Blue/Grey, Orange/Corn and Red/Pink – and three sizes. They are beautifully made from 100% wool.

Continuing our Normann Copenhagen themed posts this week, we adore the minimal and considered design of these Cognac glasses.

The cognac glass is a beautiful combination of function and pure pleasure. It’s a glass conceived to consider bouquet, temperature and volume. It provokes pleasure and increases the experience of intimacy, when drinking cognac.

The concern to quality of cognac result in the shape of the glass, which increases the pleasure of deep colour and movement of the liquid.

These glasses are dishwasher safe, but we would recommend you wash the glasses by had using a soft brush with natural bristles.
